Refuse and Recycling
All our rubbish collections are carried out by Colchester City Council, and take place on a Friday morning. For full details of the different collections, to report missed collections and all other information about the service, please go to the Colchester City Council’s refuse and recycling webpages.
To order recycling stock visit the Colchester City Website.Once you have an order reference come to the Crow’s Nest (1 Regent Street, Monday & Wednesday 9.30-11.30am) to pick it up.
We do have a problem in the village with wildlife tearing open rubbish bags left outside overnight, or bags placed in narrow streets being run over by cars. Please can you help by putting out your rubbish bags on a Friday morning wherever possible, and ensuring that they are placed out of the way of traffic. All uncollected rubbish should be removed from the street as soon as possible and not left until the following week.
Recycling Changes from 1 June 2026
From 1 June 2026, there will be changes to the kerbside collection schedule.
From 1 June waste collection will be every Friday.

Garden waste collections (for subscribed residents) will also take place fortnightly on the same day as recycling and glass collections.

Winter Weather Arrangements
East Donyland Parish Council holds a store of salt bags in the council garage in the Village Hall car park, and residents are welcome to collect salt to help keep the public paths and roads where they live clear during cold weather.
There are also salt bins for public use located on Taylors Road and Rectory Road (near Hillview Close) & the bus turning circle, and a fourth bin on Church Street.
If you feel that you could help the community to keep paths and highways clear during the winter months, please have a look at the volunteer briefing sheet below for advice and guidance when clearing snow and ice.
